The museum of Tambov post is located in the very center of Tambov – in a historic building in Sovetskaya Street. There are more than 2 000 exhibits in the exposition illustrating the foundation and development of the post service in Russia and in Tambov from the ancient times to the present day. The display space of the museum takes 70 square meters.
During the excursion visitors can get acquainted with the way how post machines and technology have been evolving for centuries, with outstanding historical personalities who influenced the development of post service, as well as with other people’s stories who decided to dedicate themselves to this difficult and important job. The museum staff tell about interesting facts associated with the town history. Visitors will learn about the details of the historic center development, about the history of the post house foundation. Numerous post cards with Tambov historic sights pictured on them give visitors an idea of the town architecture.
Among the museum exhibits there are letters, stamps, lanterns, numerous kinds of bells, trunks and post horns, various writing implements, seals, stamps and many more. A special place is given to the exposition devoted to the role of post service during the Great Patriotic War. The attention-getting audio and video materials narrate about the history of the communication service and important events of the past. Another theme section informs about the life of the famous Tambov citizen – first People’s Commissar of post and telegraph of RSFSR, V.N. Podbelsky.The museum has its own interesting details: visitors are free to touch any exhibit; moulded decorations of the building ceiling and columns have been well-preserved since the beginning of the 19th century; the musical backing accompanying the excursions will pleasantly surprise visitors and help to create a unique atmosphere for the comprehension of museum material.
