“A Fate of a Man” is a screen version of Mikhail Sholokhov’s story of the same name. The movie was released in 1959 and it was Sergey Bondarchuk’s debut as a film director. It is one of the first Soviet movies about the World War II that depicts a concentration camp prisoner as a positive character.
Two scenes were shot in Tambov. The episode of the main character saying goodbye to his wife at the railway station was shot at Tambov railway station. “The fugitives” scene was shot in the field road not far from Tambov bus station and Tatar rampart.
