These places have a very long history. Archeological excavations near the Kipets Lake confirmed that the first settlers appeared here already at the beginning of the 6 000 BC, i.e. about 6 000 years ago.

The first official record of the populated areas of the district dates back to the 17th-18th centuries.

The present-day district center is Inzhavino work settlement founded in 1705. There are two versions of the settlement name origin. According to the first one, the village stood on the Rzhavka River and that’s where the name “Rzhavino” came from that later acquired its modern pronunciation. The second version takes us back to the times when Muscovy was being formed. The legend has it that streltsy (the archers) headed by Inzha (Inzhe or Inge means “guest”, “hospitable”) were based here. Inzha came from Scandinavia and served for Moscow tsar. The first four huts were built under him. They marked the beginning of the settlement that was later named Inzhavino.

The village center was occupied by the spacious square adjoining the southern side of the church premises and used as a venue for trade fairs, holidays and public festivals.

Like no other district in Tambov region, Inzhavino district used to have a great number of country estates belonging to the gentry and merchants. The lands along the Vorona river were granted to people from noble families and closest associates of the emperor: the Tolstoys, the Dashkovs, the Volkonskies, the Petrovo-Solovovo-Perovskies, the Vinogradovs, the Chicherins, etc.

Today the district is called Tambov Switzerland for its beauty.
